Template:Infobox legislatureThe Parliament of Meriad is the unicameral legislative body of the Constitutional Monarchy of Meriad. The Meriadni Parliament meets in the State Hall of Járnfjördur, the capital of Meriad. Representatives to the Parliament are elected through direct election, although vacancies may be filled by either royal appointment or administrative appointment. The Parliament has one hundred and eighty-three voting members. The Parliament as a whole encompasses all national government legislative bodies in Meriad, and as such the prime legislative organ is referred to as the Hall of Jarls. The Meriadni Parliament was created in 1763 in accordance with the Constitution of Meriad.
Representatives in the Hall of Jarls serve six-year terms, with staggered terms so every year approximately one sixth of the Hall of Jarls is up for election. Representation to the Hall of Jarls for each administrative region is according to the Sainte-Laguë method, and is dependent upon population, with a minimum representation of five delegates for each of the twenty-one administrative regions.
In addition to creating new laws, the Hall of Jarls is also responsible for the appointment of each new Prime Minister. Prime Ministers historically come from the leadership of the majority party, with strong support from multiple other parties. A list of potential candidates, usually three to five, is then sent to the Monarch, who makes the official appointment.
