The Holy Khorneran Empire, commonly called Khornera, is an Semi-Constitutional Monarchy in Southern Orda, Ordis' western continent. It is bordered to the south by Ottmar, and on the east by Zammora and Sempyra, and has an estimated population of 281,112,620. Khornera is divided into 49 Provinces, of which are XXX Grand Duchies, XXX are Duchies, XXX Counties, one Principality, XXX Grand Baronies, XXX Viceroyalties, and XXX are Charter Republics. Khornera also holds XXX overseas territories.

Khornera is widely recognised as one of the two superpowers currently dominating Ordic affairs, alongside Nerotysia. Ever since the end of the Second Endwar, Khornera has played a dominant role in geopolitics, and has assumed leadership over the capitalist bloc. It retains a permanent seat in the Ordic League, and is a founding member and current president of GAP. The Empire is an economic powerhouse, with relatively low unemployment and a high Human Development Index[1].

In recent years however, Khornera has become critisised for its conservative culture and society, which some observers have described as: "absolutist and neo-feudal" [2].

History[edit | edit source]

Prehistoric history[edit | edit source]

Classical Antiquity (First/Second Age)[edit | edit source]

In classical antiquity, around the year 800 B.C., these settlements had developed to independent city-states. These states and their colonies reached great levels of prosperity which resulted in a cultural and scientific boom, expressed in art, architecture, philosophy, and mathematics. Most of these city states were ruled by aristocratic councils, bound by complex constitutions and customs[3]. In order to remain competetive, some of the less developed city-states pooled their resources together and created small confederations. In response, larger, more powerful city-states also began forming complex alliances to maintain their power. Through political marriages, diplomacy and conquest, these confederations massively expanded their territory, creating settlements that reached all the way to modern day Tilvey.

Due to a shared origin, and intensive trade, these confederations were culturally relatively similar, with trade and further cooperation further homogenising the confederations. Often they clashed however over minor cultural issues, politics, or often settling rights for colonists.

Most historically significant amongst these confederations was the Acheric Hegemony, centered around the city state Acheron[4]. The Hegemony consisted of it's core city, several acquired colonies, and a small collection of semi-autonomous city states which were obtained by either force or diplomacy. Over the centuries, Acheron transformed into the Acheric Empire when Archis Thalassicus declared himself Emperor in the year 220 B.C., which also marks the beginning of the Khorneran Ascension Calendar, and the Khorneran Second Age. The Acheric Empire gradually declined at the start of the third century (Gregorian calendar), which many contemporary scholars attributing its decline to its increasing decadence[5][6], until it eventually was destroyed by the First Exalted March in 405 AD, which marks the start of the Khorneran Third Age.

Middle Ages (Third Age)[edit | edit source]

After the collapse of the Acheric Empire, Khornera became divided into smaller kingdoms, many founded by the crusaders whom fought against the Acheric Empire during the First Exalted March. A feudal system began to emerge, centered around the newly formed crusader states. Throughout this early post-Imperial period, many uncoordinated attempts were made to spread the Auridon by force of arms, with only marginal succeses.

Under King Hirian I, a large part of the mainland was conquered to form a larger kingdom. In 502, he was the first Khorneran conquerer to convert to Orthodox Auridon. By being coronated again by the Pontif of the Orthodoxy, Hirian I asserted the right of kings as divine in origin. After the death of Hirian I in 521, his kingdom collapsed as his heirs warred over his territories, which formed a majority of contintental Khornera.

The area today known as Khornera Proper had already been host to a small Acheric presence during the Second Age. It was Valreus I, thirdborn son of Hirian I, whom in 528 invaded Khornera Proper with a large warhost and established the first Khorneran kingdom.

The Holy Khorneran Empire is an elective monarchy, in which the Emperor is elected for life by the nobility as a whole. The Emperor wields supreme executive power, overseeing the Empire as a whole as the head of state. The Emperor also reserves the right to appoint or dismiss members of the government at will, although as a matter of tradition this is rarely done, with the Emperor maintaining some distance to the day to day affairs of the nation. Entrusted with these duties is the Lord Regent, whom is appointed by the Emperor and also wields Imperial authority when the Emperor is absent, or when a new Emperor is yet to be chosen. In practice the Lord Regent manages most of the affairs, with the exception of foreign policy, which traditionally has been managed directly by the Emperor.

The legislative branch is the Holy Imperial Chambers of Parliament, consisting of both the Chamber of the Provinces and the Chamber of the Highborne
