The Meriadni Royal Navy (commonly called the Royal Navy) is Meriad's principal naval warfare force. It is charged with the protection of Meriad's lengthy coastline and expansive territorial waters, projecting Meriadni power in times of war, assisting mariners in distress, and conducting counter-piracy, counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics, and counter-smuggling operations in Meriadni waters and in conjunction with foreign naval forces. While the Meriadni navy is quite small, it is well-equipped and well-funded by the Meriadni Parliament.
The Meriadni Royal Navy, as a branch of the Armed Forces of Meriad, is formally commanded by the reigning Monarch of Meriad, presently King Sketli Edhrophel II. Practically, it is commanded overall by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, General Ebba Isaksson, and in particular by the Commanding Admiral of the Royal Navy, presently Fleet Admiral (upper half) Petter Ueland.
The Royal Navy maintains a well-equipped force of 3 cruisers, 6 destroyers, 22 patrol vessels, and numerous small boats and watercraft. These assets are augmented by a force of over 180 rotary-wing aircraft and 58 fixed-wing aircraft. There are also two replenishment ships under the operational control of the Meriadni Civil Marine Service, which are tasked with keeping Meriadni Navy vessels refueled and resupplied.
